The optional control is a unique selling point and the heart of the Avifood Lux daylight lamp: It allows the lamp to be automatically dimmed in small steps over 30 minutes at a time, simulating a sunrise and a sunset. During this time, the moonlight switches on or off; it stays on all night so that the parrots have a way of finding their way at night too.
One of 20 programmed locations, from Dubai to Lisbon, with different longitudes can be selected in the control system. Accordingly, the control system ensures that the length of day and night increases and decreases over the course of the year, according to the natural light conditions of the selected location. This means that the parrots in the indoor rooms have similar light conditions to those in an outdoor aviary.
The Avifood Lux daylight lamp can also be operated without this control, by simply switching it on and off. However, this eliminates the natural light transitions between daylight and nightlight, and seasonal control is difficult to achieve manually.
