Description

A year-round maintenance formula that meets the nutritional requirements for healthy, non-breeding adult birds incl. pionus, amazons, eclectus, cockatoos, large macaws and other medium to large parrots that have been on High Potency for at least 6 months.

We recommend High Potency coarse for birds that are breeding, moulting and younger than 6 months, and for African Grey Parrots, Hyacinth Macaws, Palm Cockatoos and Golden Conures.

To optimize the content of essential fatty acids (omega 3 and omega 6), carotene and natural vitamin E, we recommend 11,34 g of Harrison bird food with Palmgloss. To do this, add 250 ml of Palmgloss to the freshly opened food bag. Mix the food and Palmgloss well until everything is evenly distributed.
After feeding, close the food bag tightly and store it in the refrigerator. The food should be consumed within 8 weeks.

Preparation of bird bread from powdered feed from 11.34 kg bags:

Due to manufacturing and transportation reasons, some 25 lb bags of Dr. Harrison Breeding Coarse or Maintenance Coarse may have a partially powdery consistency, sometimes up to 20% of the feed. This is not waste, but complete feed that should be fed to your birds. Since the larger parrots do not eat the food in powder form, we recommend that you bake organic bird bread from this powdered food as follows:

Please do not use non-stick baking pans for baking, as the fumes from such coatings are toxic to birds.

 You need:

    • 450 g of powdered Dr. Harrison breeding food coarse or Dr. Harrison maintenance food coarse,
    • 3 organic eggs,
    • 250 ml of water
    • 25 ml of high-quality, highly heatable organic oil
    • 1 teaspoon organic baking powder
  •  Preheat oven to 175 – 180 °C (top and bottom heat)
  • Mix the 450 g of powdered feed with three whole eggs (without shell, egg yolk can be removed for birds that tend to become fat), 25 ml of a high-quality, high-heat oil from controlled organic farming and 250 ml of water.
  • Pour this mixture into a greased baking or muffin tin or spread it on a greased baking tray
  • Baking time 25 – 35 minutes.

Feeding recommendation:

  • The bird bread can make up to 30% of the daily feed
  • If the bird bread is baked with nuts, fruits or vegetables, it should only be given as a treat and should not exceed 10% of the daily feed amount
  • Can also be served warm – not hot!
  • Flavour variations such as vanilla flavouring, apple, walnut or herbs can be added as long as they do not change the content of the ingredients – see analysis of Dr Harrison breeding feed coarse or maintenance feed coarse

Storage of homemade organic bird bread:

Since Dr. Harrison coarse breeding food or coarse maintenance food does not contain any preservatives, the following must be observed when storing the bird bread baked from it:

  • After baking, the bird bread will keep in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to a week.
  • Baked bird bread can be divided into individual portions that can be stored in an airtight container in the freezer at -18°C for up to a month – it is best to thaw it at room temperature and then offer it to your parrots immediately.
